How does one become a professional trader in Germany to circumvent the 20.000 euros limit on the losses deduction? Does becoming a professional trader really allows you to compensate your losses in options trading against your profits when calculating the taxes?

Thank you for taking the time to reply.
So, there is no 'professional trader' in Germany. One can't make an income and pay income tax instead of capital gains by trading futures/options ? One is always subject to Capital Gains irrespective of whether they trade 100 times a month or once a month ?
I was referring to the gains in 2021. As far as I am aware, 2020 is exempt. The law was passed in Dec 2019. I am still shocked that one can go bankrupt because of the law, I mean in theory, if you have 2mm of gains vs -1.95mm in losses, you need to pay almost 500k in taxes on gains of 50k...
I am not sure if that was intended by the law. It seems intended to cause harm than to actually tax.

If you made the profit in 2020, I think it's not yet subject to the trader tax, but just 25% of the net profit. But check with your tax advisor to be sure. The German tax on options and derivatives can be quite complex, even with no trader tax. And since you took residence in Germany, you can be sure that the finance ministry has good connection to IB and other major brokers and knows everything about your accounts.
